A New Era: Bill Rhyne Sworn In as Spartanburg Sheriff, Pledging Transparency |
After two decades under the same leadership, Spartanburg County welcomes a new sheriff and a historic command staff focused on rebuilding community trust. |
A new chapter has officially begun for law enforcement in Spartanburg County.
Bill Rhyne took the oath of office Friday, becoming the first new sheriff to lead the county in twenty years.
The ceremony marked a pivotal moment for a community eager for change and renewed confidence in its sheriff's office.
Rhyne, a veteran of public safety with nearly three decades of experience, described the role as a calling he had to answer, even after his retirement.
He immediately set a new tone, promising a culture of accountability and servant leadership.
Joining him was his hand-picked command staff, whose swearing-in represented a truly historic moment for the region.
For the first time ever, a woman was appointed to the command staff, with Captain Michelle Johnson taking the helm of administration.
“My heart is the community,” Johnson stated, emphasizing her focus on ensuring residents come first.
This commitment to the public is already being put into action.
Sheriff Rhyne announced immediate plans to release quarterly financial updates, a direct move intended to foster transparency.
It's a clear and decisive step toward strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the people they serve.
Rhyne has also created a new Director of Budget and Finance position to ensure fiscal responsibility.
“The biggest thing is just being open with the public,” Sheriff Bill Rhyne said, underscoring his open-door policy. |
