A New Era: Bill Rhyne Sworn In as Spartanburg Sheriff, Pledging Transparency

A new chapter has officially begun for law enforcement in Spartanburg County.

Bill Rhyne took the oath of office Friday, becoming the first new sheriff to lead the county in twenty years.

The ceremony marked a pivotal moment for a community eager for change and renewed confidence in its sheriff's office.

Rhyne, a veteran of public safety with nearly three decades of experience, described the role as a calling he had to answer, even after his retirement.

He immediately set a new tone, promising a culture of accountability and servant leadership.

Joining him was his hand-picked command staff, whose swearing-in represented a truly historic moment for the region.

For the first time ever, a woman was appointed to the command staff, with Captain Michelle Johnson taking the helm of administration.
